Director, Visual Effects Supervisor

ALADINO DEBERT

Welcome to my site, where you’ll find recent work, archives, news, ways to contact me, etc. You can download a copy of my resume here.

I’m a Director and Visual Effects Supervisor for Digital Domain in Los Angeles, California, who tries to tell great stories independent of the particular technique being used. With that in mind, great cinematography and amazing visuals are complementary at all times to writing and direction. Or, put it more simply, I like to work on cool stuff…

At Digital Domain I’m responsible for the creative direction of projects and supervision of a team of 2D and 3D artists in addition to freelancers. Depending on the project, I’m in charge of live action direction, concept development, treatment and methodology writing, bidding, set supervision as well as on-the-box work.

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and although I had always thought I’d pursue a career in Architecture (I actually studied it for two years in Buenos Aires), after my move to New York City, I attended Pratt Institute and got a Computer Graphics Degree. Having always been a fan of Sci-Fi-laden films and books, I steadily moved towards visual effects instead, and like so many others in the industry, eventually found myself moving to Los Angeles to work in film.

Over the years I’ve worked in some amazing places such as Metrolight Studios, VisionArt, Digital Domain (more on my return there below) and Radium/ReelFX in roles such as CG Generalist, CG Supervisor, Head of CG, Visual Effects Supervisor and eventually Director.

In April 2010, as Mothership was getting started, I was invited to join them. I jumped at the chance of coming back to Digital Domain, a company with credits long and illustrious with an incredibly talented team.

After several years solely directing and supervising commercial work, I’ve branched into TV Episodic work, and I’ve been supervising teams for many shows, including Marvel’s “Ms. Marvel” & Amazon’s “Carnival Row” Season 2. I’ve also had the pleasure of leading the teams for the work we did on Netflix’s “Lost In Space” Season 2”“A Series of Unfortunate Events”, STARZ “Black Sails” and “Outlander”, and Spike TV’s “The Mist”. And of course I continue directing interesting stuff for the Oculus DriftNikeBMW, and game trailers for titles such as the new “Ghost of Tsushima” for Sucker Punch, Activision’s “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4“, Bungie’s “Destiny 2: Forsaken“, Gearbox’s “Battleborn”, Microsoft’s “Ryse: Son of Rome“, 2K’s “Evolve” and “Gears of War”. The list of commercial clients I’ve worked with over the years is quite long, and includes Microsoft, Nike, Sprint, Chevy, Nissan, Pepsi, Honda, Renault, Havoline, Dolby, Boeing, McDonald’s and Kyocera among others.

I hope you enjoy my site, and please feel free to contact me with any feedback, comments or if you have any project we could help you with.

Peace, Aladino.
